Music you should be listening to

No one found this article interesting enough to chat about...

I just put together a fairly comprehensive list of albums (15 of them to be exact) that you should be listening to while working.

The article is over at one of my new sites: Music to Work By: 15 Albums Necessary for Any Designer’s Playlist

eMusic is my new obsession (plus how you can get 50 free songs)

No one found this article interesting enough to chat about...

So the past month I’ve really become a bit of a music junkie…more so than usual. I’ve purchased like 7 albums worth of songs and added a whole slew of additional albums I’ll be picking up in the near future.

One of the major contributing factors to this is eMusic. They don’t have as large of a mainstream selection as say iTunes, but they’ve got a massive collection of more independent and older tunes. It really is a gold mine of music.

In the interest of getting even more free music, I’d like to extend and eMusic referral to anybody and everybody. All you’ve got to do is shoot me a quick email (to josh at joshpigford dot com) and I’ll send you an invitation for 50 free songs…which is just plain crazy.

I won’t do a stinkin’ thing with your email address other than email you the eMusic link. After that I’ll delete your email forever and ever.

So, what are you waiting for? Get yourself 50 free songs! (again by sending an email to josh at joshpigford dot com).

Yipeee! :)

Album of the Week: Anberlin - Cities

No one found this article interesting enough to chat about...

Anberlin - Cities This week’s Album of the Week goes to the new Anberlin album, Cities.

It’s not a huge departure from previous albums but it definitely rocks harder.

Favorite tracks so far are Adelaid, Hello Alone, Dismantle.Repair., and slow-rocker Inevitable.

Artist of the Week: Angels & Airwaves

Angels & AirwavesI, like many folks, went through a punk phase in my musical tastes and bought every crappy punk bands album I could get my hands on. Blink-182 was in that list. An occasional Blink-182 song will make it’s way through my iTunes Smart Radio Station and I can’t help but wonder how I loved listing to them…it just hurts my ears now. Maybe I’m getting old…or picky.

At any rate, I say all that to say that Tom DeLonge (former Blink-182 frontman) has a new band…and they don’t hurt my ears. Blink-182 had a nasty breakup in the past year and one of Tom’s reasons for jumping ship was that he wanted more out of music. He wanted to product and create something that people could really relate to on a deeper level…something that moved your heart.

That new ’something’ is Angels & Airwaves and their debut album We Don’t Need to Whisper.

I have to admit that I was a bit skeptical when I heard who the founder of the band was, but don’t let that deter you. These guys really do have some great songs that aren’t your typical radio-rock-power-pop-punk. Quite the contrary, actually.

I can list to this album straight through (all 50 minutes of it) and not skip one of them. It’s just that good.

Go give it a listen.

Artist of the Week: Michael Chandler

This week’s Artist of Week is Michael Chandler. Just good quality song writing and tunes that make you realize the music industry hasn’t completely gone down the drain.

Check out his latest album Love Ethic on iTunes.
